Ysé & Amour Breton

Behind the collaboration

This summer, Ysé is uniting with Amour Breton: a love story written on the skin, woven from shared memories and stolen moments. And just for you, we’re revealing some of the secrets behind the creation of this collection.

1. THE MEETING

Some collaborations arise from a meeting between two people; others from a shared region. This one stems from both.

A year ago, Clara, founder of Ysé, met Maïwenn, the illustrator and creator behind Amour Breton. Very quickly, a shared desire took shape: to tell the story of Brittany, with Maïwenn given free rein. A region never before explored by Ysé, with a strong, deeply endearing identity.

From this meeting came a capsule collection, like a collection of summer memories: prints hand-painted by Maïwenn, featured on a selection of ready-to-wear and swimwear pieces.

The aim was also to bring Brittany to life beyond just clothing. The collection is accompanied by items designed as holiday souvenirs: accessories made in Brittany, in collaboration with the Faïencerie de Pornic, and postcards illustrated by Maïwenn, to send, collect, or slip between the pages of your summer read.

2. IN THE SPOTLIGHT: PRINTS

Her starting point for creating the prints: a poem by Châteaubriant, which describes spring in Brittany, taken from his collection Mémoires d’outre-tombe. A particularly descriptive work, in which daisies, pansies and other flowers seem to come to life.

The desire arose to create a pattern in his image: generous, prolific, with colourful flowers, both on jersey fabric for ready-to-wear and on swimwear.

The flowers were painted one by one, as part of a process of researching the most accurate shades, by testing them on old household linens, which were then scanned and reassembled to develop one of the final patterns, named Maïwenn.

In the second stanza of the poem, Châteaubriant refers to wild grasses: this time, his focus was on the friezes, where the bindweed is combined with more refined details, resulting in the Rozenn motif.

The collaboration T-shirt features a bouquet of flowering hyacinths: the first flowers of spring, with their delicate fragrance, they evoke memories of the first rays of sunshine.

Imprimé de la collaboration Ysé et Amour Breton

Maïwenn, the designer and illustrator behind Amour Breton, brings her region with her into every medium, every subject and every story.

For Ysé, she has created prints that are deeply moving, inspired by Breton poetry and the unforgettable scenery of her region.

This collaboration with Ysé came about quite naturally, culminating in the Ysé team falling in love with a photo of her little brother wearing a crown of hydrangeas, taken some twenty years ago, which features in the campaign visuals, shot on the Emerald Coast in Saint-Malo.
